Personas

Reusable instructions that shape how the assistant behaves — and which tools it may use.

A persona is a saved way of working: instructions, a model preference, and the set of tools the assistant is allowed to reach for. Using one is the difference between re-explaining your context every session and not.

AODex ships a catalog of tuned personas. You add the ones you want to your library, and write your own on top of them.

The Personas library

Adding one from the catalog

Add persona from catalog lists everything available. Add puts it in your library. When you already have them all, the catalog says Every available persona is already in your library.

An empty library reads Add a persona from the catalog to build your library.

Writing your own

Create Persona. The form is in three parts.

Basic information

FieldNotes
NameGive your persona a name. Shown wherever the persona is selected.
DescriptionA short description of this persona — what it is for, so future-you can tell two apart.
InstructionsThe system prompt. Instructions for the AI… This is the substance of the persona.
TagsComma-separated. For your own organization.

Model settings

Pick the model the persona should use, and a Max Tokens ceiling. The current selection is shown as Current: ().

Setting a model here pins it. Conversations using this persona show Model is fixed by this persona and cannot switch. Leave it unset if you want the persona’s instructions without taking the model choice away from yourself.

Capabilities

Switches for what the persona may use: web search, document generation, extended reasoning, file upload and knowledge. These control which buttons appear above the input — a persona with web search off simply has no Search button.

This is a deliberate narrowing tool. A persona meant for careful drafting is often better without search, because the temptation to go and look is what makes it wander.

Managing your library

ActionEffect
FavoritePushes it up your list.
Default personaUsed by new conversations that do not choose one.
DuplicateCopies it so you can vary one without losing the original.
Edit PersonaChange any of the above.
Delete PersonaRemoves it from your library.

Duplicating a catalog persona and editing the copy is usually the right way to start — you get a working set of instructions to react to rather than a blank box.

Using one

Select it in the conversation. The thread shows Active persona: . A project can also carry a Default Persona, which new conversations in that project inherit — see Projects.
