Attach files and images

Put a document or a picture in front of the assistant.

Attachments belong to the message you send them with, and stay part of the conversation afterwards.

Attaching

Three ways, all equivalent:

  • Attach file next to the input.
  • Drag the file onto the conversation — a Drop files to attach them to this conversation target appears.
  • On a phone, Photo Library for images.

While a file is being prepared, you will see Processing . Remove one before sending with the control on the attachment button.

What happens to them

Documents are read and their text becomes context for the message. Images are looked at directly by models that support it. Either way, the file is stored with the conversation, so you can reopen it later — and so can a later message in the same thread.

Scanned documents and photographs of text are read too; AODex extracts the text rather than treating the page as an opaque picture.

When something is rejected

An attachment that cannot be accepted produces Attachment error with the reason. The usual causes are size and an unsupported file type. Dismiss the error, and either convert the file or paste the relevant part as text.

A very large document is not always best sent as an attachment. If you plan to refer to it repeatedly, or across several conversations, put it in a knowledge base instead — the assistant will retrieve the relevant parts and cite them rather than carrying the whole thing in every message.

Opening them again

Attachments in the thread can be reopened, and larger ones can be sent to a workbook for a fuller view with Open in workbook.

If a phone refuses access to your pictures, AODex says Please enable photo library access in Settings — that is an operating-system permission, granted outside AODex.
