Organize with folders and labels
Two different tools: folders put a conversation somewhere, labels describe it.
Folders and labels solve different problems, and it is worth being deliberate about which you reach for.
- A folder is a location. A conversation sits in one.
- A label is a description. A conversation can carry several.
Folders
Manage Folders → Create New Folder, give it a name, and move conversations into it with Move to folder.
Folders can be reordered, renamed with Edit folder, and deleted.
Deleting a folder does not delete what is in it. The interface says so explicitly — Conversations in this folder will not be deleted. They return to the ungrouped list.
Labels
Manage Labels → Create New Label. Apply them from a conversation’s actions; a thread can hold as many as are useful.
Because you are not forced to pick one home for it, a label is the better tool when a conversation is legitimately two things at once — client work that is also research, say.
Deleting a label removes it from every conversation that carries it. The conversations themselves are untouched.
Which to use
| If you want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Keep one client’s threads together | A folder |
| Mark threads that are unfinished | A label |
| Separate work from personal | Folders |
| Track a theme that cuts across folders | A label |
Neither affects what the assistant can see. They are for you, not for it — to change what the model has access to, use Conversation context.
